Saturday the 24th May 2025 will go down as a red letter day for the Club as two of our Clubs Inter Club Teams emerged victorious in their respective competitions – the Senior Cup Mens team at home in Carrick on Suir and the Pierce Purcell team away in Cahir.
These successes build on last weeks great success by the Clubs Mixed Foursomes Team in Lismore Golf Club.
Senior Mens Cup v Faithlegge:
Carrick on Suir Golf Club returned to Seniors Mens competition action after a 5 year hiatus and did so in style today.
Carrick hosted a highly fancied Faithlegge Team in Garravoone today, Faithlegge travelled with more than a bit of confidence as they had a talented team packed with scratch golfers who have won Provincial Junior and Adult honours in the past number of years.
Carricks Senior Team however got straight down to business and pressed the visitors to take an early lead and by the 5th Hole led in 4 of the matches and were level in one.
By the 9th hole and playing some wonderful golf Carrick stamped their authority on the match and our team were in the lead in all of the match pairings as they turned for the back 9 holes.
By the 15th Hole Faithlegges young but honours laden and talented team had managed to claw their way back into the match and led one pairing by the narrowest of margins and drew level in another.
However at this stage two of Carricks most experienced golfers came surging to the fore and quenched the Faithlegge challenge winning their respective matches 6 & 5 and 5 & 4.
By the 18th Hole our first player out in the match reversed the Faithlegge comeback and won his match on the 18th Hole bringing Carricks tally to 3 outright wins with more still to come out on the course as the players were called in.
The final score line was Carrick on Suir Golf Club – 4 to Faithlegges – 1 and this result capped off a remarkable performance by Carricks talented group of players who can now look forward to he next round against the winners of Waterford Castle V Youghal at Lee Valley Golf Club in Cork in 5 weeks time.
Huge congratulations to our Senior Team on a fantastic win against our much fancied visitors.

Pierce Purcell Competition v Cahir:
Our Pierce Purcell Team travelled away to Cahir today and were up against very stiff competition in last years Pierce Purcell All Ireland Finalists – Cahir Golf Club and had to play them on their own turf.
Cahirs reputation and their success of last year and reputation however did not faze the our Club men who from the off engaged in a closely fought contest and at the half way stage Carrick were up in one match; down in 2 matches and all square in the last so the pressure was on.
Cahir had thrown down the gauntlet however the Carrick team responded with admirable grit and drew level across all matches by the time the last team closed out 18.
This meant the team went to a sudden death playoff and after the first play off hole the deadlock remained with Cahir and Carrick battling for supremacy.
It was on the 2nd playoff hole that Carrick pressed on and by keeping their composure and reaching the green in regulation they piled the pressure on their home based opponents.
Carrick finally sealed the deal with a fabulous winning putt by our experienced campaigner Terry O’Connor and this ended a titanic day long tussle between two game and talented teams with Carrick emerging victorious.
Congratulations to all of our Pierce Purcell Panel and Team who edged this fantastic match which puts them into the next round of this prestigious competition at home to Tipperary Golf Club.
